Aloha, Ahoy

One of my 'to do' items on my list for 101 things in 1001 days was to answer the 50 questions that will free your mind.

The questions can be originally found on Marc&Angel. A blog site that I'm starting to find myself frequenting often.

I've been on a bit of a soul searching journey of late, I'm getting back in touch with myself, rediscovering, recreating & finding my direction.

I read a handful of these questions & decided I'd pop the feature on my list & take time to answer them. You can read the questions & my answers below:

1. How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?
I'd be 17. I reckon at a guess. If I could choose, I'd be 426.
(I'm actually 27)

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
This is a no nonsense answer for me, never trying is much worse than failing. Failing means you've had the courage to try & you'll find the strength to continue.
Sometimes a step back helps us to leap forward. Staying still never gets you anywhere other than where you are.

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Life is short, but I wouldn't say we do things we don't like, I mean somethings paying bills, paying for travel, food yada yada are necessary. Sometimes we must do things we don't like to be able to do the things we do like. I'm learning not to get stuck in that rut though, to love what you do & do what you love because it is truly the way to keep happiness in your heart.

4. When it's all said & done, will you have said more than you've done?
No I'm determined to truly live rather than exist. I don't like gossip, down talk or small talk. If I'm going to speak to you, it's because I want to communicate with you. I try not to fill my mind palace with anything unnecessary.
5. What is the one thing you'd most like to change about the world?
The war, the anger, the negativity.
We live on a beautiful planet, we should protect her.
We're all stardust hurtling a million miles an hour through the universe.
I don't know about you, but that's pretty spectacular to me, we should definitely celebrate life & all of mankind, nature & the rock we live on.

6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Dance. Music. Art. Communication.Travel. Anything creative that allows me to unite with people who share my passions.
I'd probably travel the world singing about the planet.

7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
I'm starting to.
I'm finding my independence, my voice & my way.

8. If the human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I'd stop stressing so much about the little things & enjoy them more. I'd make more of an effort to see family & do the things I love.
I don't need to be told life is short to make me do those things, I'm already aware of that fact and for me currently it's about ensuring the balance I need between professional and personal is created.

9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Until my mid twenties not much, though as a teen I had some tough choices to make & I believe they led to the choices of my early twenties.
My mid twenties was when I took a stand.
I made some permanent changes & instead of settling for comfortable I decided to chase passion.
Happiness was going to be comfortable if not a little dull or it was going to be one hell of an adventure, that wouldn't be easy at times but at least it would be real. I have to say that while it's not been easy all the time, it has been real & I feel I'm becoming more confident and stronger in my approach to life.
I'm glad I took that first leap because I honestly believe in the good things coming.

10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
I'm definitely more concerned about doing the right things. I like to get things right, but it's human nature to fall at times. I'd rather fall at doing the right things, then be right doing the mediocre things.

11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire.  They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend.  The criticism is distasteful and unjustified.  What do you do?
I'm ashamed to admit that in the past I would have stayed quiet, but these days I'd be more likely to say what I truly felt about that person. I'd find the good quality to remind those people that we all have our flaws but we're all in this together.
I think it's easy to leap on people, but i'd hope someone would take a stand for me, if I couldn't protect myself.

12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
It's okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them & understand the lesson.

13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Yes. Depending on the course of action that needed to be taken.
I would atone for my actions.

14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
A band I didn't really like as a kid have grown to become one of my favourite bands in the world & I believe the 9 members are among the cleverest people on the planet, or perhaps the most creative would be a more apt description.
I don't think everyone understands the art but once you get it, it's like one of those real lightbulb moments.

15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I act on intuition, I follow my heart, mind over matter.
No matter the consequence, a trait that that proved less than useful when I was doing day jobs as a teen.
A trait that as I progress through my twenties appears to be one of my strengths of character.

16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy
 Because we're all differnet.
Life would be awfully dull if we were all the same.

17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?  What’s holding you back?
The one thing I've not done that I've wanted to do for all my life so far, is to follow my heart on the greatest adventure to the other side of the world to a land where creativity & free spiritedness is encouraged.
Holding me back has been myself as my own worst enemy.
...
Watch this space.

 18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Yes.
I dated a guy in my early twenties and he broke me.
He broke my spirit, he made me question everything about myself.
It took me two years to regain my life back and almost five to be able to talk about it and admit it to myself.
After that I swore to myself that I'd never allow myself to be emotionally controlled by anyone.
I'm learning to let go of what occured between us.
I was lucky to have people around me that held me up & looked out for me while I grew strong again.
19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
I'd move to California, to San Fransisco, or to Washington State.
I guess they've always felt like home to me. I think I maybe lived there in a past life or perhaps the energy of the world draws me to there.
Either way, I have a connection to those places despite never having travelled there that I cannot explain.
All I know, is that they feel like home.

 20. Do you push the elevator button more than once?  Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
No, In fact, I prefer the journey.
Taking the train is one of my favourite things to do, watching the platforms and land pass me by as I speed across the country.
Holding my hand out the window to feel the air as I drive along the road.

21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
 A worried genius.
Probably sounds mad but I love to learn, I believe it's the simplest way to develop.
I'd take exploration & study over blissful ignorance anyday.
Be the change you want to see in the world.

22. Why are you, you?
Because I am, I can't explain it.
I just know that while I'm here, i'm going to have one hell of an adventure.
I want to see everything, experience all that I can.
Live.

23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
At times, I have my moments.
I try to be a good person.
I try to follow the mantra of treat others as you wish to be treated.

24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
Losing touch with a friend who lives right near you.
Because distance holds no sway over a true friendship.
Losing friends I've been close with has been among the most painful learning experiences I've endured as I've developed.

25. What are you most grateful for?
For the realisation that I am completely free.
That I alwatys have a choice, a voice & all I need to do is decide how to spend the time that is given to me.

26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
This is a tough one.
I think I'd have to go with losing all of my old memories because I'd rather live in the present looking to the future than to live in the past.
That being said I'd rather not do either, my memories are precious to me.
They keep me guided on where i've come from.
Where I've been & the lessons i've learnt.
They allow me to learn and utilise the present to create a good future.

27. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Some truths you know in your heart.
You don't need to be told them to unerstand them.
In my experience it's not the truth that needs challenging.

28. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
Yes. Several times.
My greatest fear is feeling completely alone, as though you've failed everyone & everything you've put time into.
Several times in my life I've felt as though I've been totally alone & as though I've completely failed.
Luckily whether it's been friends, family or strangers who've become family I've been loved enough that I was able to stand again & find the strength to leap once more into the ocean of the world.

29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset?  Does it really matter now?
Yes I remember, no it doesn't matter to me now, but it has helped to shape me.
I've learnt & become stronger.

30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
My happiest childhood memory is taking walks along the river and through the hills with my parents and brother.
It reminds me of a simpler time, a time that should be treasured & relived as much as possible.

 31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
When I started my blog.
It was in a time when I was burning everything I'd ever known or been told.
I took the first steps into my adult life, there were no signs, no markings on the road.
I just followed my heart & began to write.
It led me to the path I am on now.
While that path isn't always clear, though I've become lost, it's allowed me to truly find myself & create myself.

 32. If not now, then when?
Now is all the time you have.

33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
I'm learning that I have nothing to lose, because it's better to try and fail than to never have tried.

34.Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
I have, I've also had the greatest conversation with the least likely people.
I've had the opportunity to learn that sometimes you can make friends in the least likely of places in the least likely of characters.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
Because mankind becomes confused when tied up in facts.
If we all read the big picture, we'd probably see just how similar the basis & characters are.
It's my belief among karma, that we belong to the Earth & that we're connected one and all that the powers that be first took a human from each corner of the globe.
They invited these people to the top of a hill where they were all told the story of religion.
Each of these people went back to their community and relayed the story.
Translations differ, stories change over time and the whispers have led everyone to believing such different faiths that people are willing to kill for it.
Power is hungry & will devour anyone in it's way.

36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
Absolutely.
Trust your heart.
Trust in yourself.
Sometimes the lines are blurred and you gotta be careful not to get burned.

37. If you just won a million dollars would you quit your job?
Yes. I always thought I wouldn't but as I've got older, I've begun to realise that yes I'd quit my job so someone else could have the chance to forge a career.
I'd set about being the difference I'd like to see in the world.
I'm working on that day by day, but winning a million dollars would allow me to leap into it.

 38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
I'd rather have more work that I enjoy doing, but I'm making the necessary changes to create the balance in my life.
Life is about balance, variety is the spice.
Music is the food.
Freedom is the road.

39.  Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
No because today I'm forging my own path in the forest of life.

40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
About three years ago, but this week I've relit that torch.
I've wandered through the door & I'm on the road.

41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
I'd spend time with my mummabear, my papabear, my brotherbear.
I'd call my friends the world over.
I'd watch the sunset with the people I love.

42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
HELL NO.
Time makes us beautiful, wisdom radiates beauty. I'd rather be wrinkly & maintain my anonymity forging my story than die young, beautiful and famous.
Those who make a difference in the world are those who are remembered.
Fame won't make you successful.

43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Being alive we exist, we eat, we socialise, we go about our daily routine.
When we truly live, we let go of all that, they become little acts of the day but they do not rule us.
We thrive on every moment of the adventure.

44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
I think in your heart you know it's time, you know it's right.
Sometimes it's possible to be in a place physically but you're not there spiritually.
But when you're in a place spiritually you just follow your heart, your intuition.

45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Human nature I guess.
We're creatures of habit, we've grown in a world obsessed with success - to fail is seen as such a negative.
Sometimes failure is neccesary to truly free us.

46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
Exactly what I'm doing now, being true to myself.
It's a learning thing for me at the moment, I'm still getting to know Krystal Gemma but each day I'm breaking free a little more.
Learning to use my voice.
Finding my colours.

47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
Today.
Listening to your breathing allows you to tap into your essence, your rhythm.
When you can htap into and dance to that tune, you'd be surprised at the energy you can find.

48. What do you love?  Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
Life.
Truly living.
I feel as though I've been asleep and just woken up.
I'm all about the music, the beats, the message.
I'm all about the arts, likeminded souls and the passions that I thrive upon.

49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday?  What about the day before that?  Or the day before that?
I think I will.
Let me tell you why - because resurecting my blog has allowed me to recreate myself in the image of who I am at heart.
I don't think I'll forget this transition.
It's like tumbling down the rabbit hole into wonderland.
But instead of ending in wonderland, I'm landing in reality, but this time i'm seeing everything in colour.

50. Decisions are being made right now.  The question is:  Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?

I think actually, for once being totally honest - I'm finally making them for myself.
It's incredibly freeing.
It's terrifying but exciting.
Finding my own interpretation of the things that inspire me, of my way of life.
Excitifying.

-

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, if you've been inspired to answer the 50 questions that will free your mind please do share your post in the comments below.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the questions, but what I've found is clarity in my thought.

Everything I've been thinking, realising in my heart is true.
The time for wondering is done.
The time for action is now.
I'm on my journey.
Today is just the first step.

-

I wouldn't be the person I am becoming, I wouldn't have had the strength to follow my heart into the forest if it hadn't been for someone who was introduced to me.
Someone who I've never actually met, but who has encouraged me to listen to the tune within.
Someone who's music spoke volumes to me when I listened.
Someone who is incredibly special to me - who lit the path when my torch went out.
Who's medicine began to heal me.
Who provided me with a beacon when I felt lost in the fog.
Who when I thought things would never make sense again, showed me that life was just around the corner if I was willing to take the steps.

Helping me to find my place in my families heritage, in my grandads tribe.
Believing in the life I embodied but struggled to understand & to reason with in the world.
For providing me with the inspiration to dance to the beat of my drum barefoot & follow my heart.

I BELIEVE IN THE GOOD THINGS COMING

With all my heart & my fire

Aloha, Ahoy

I write lists, I make lists, I think of lists; in fact even in my sleep from time to time I've become aware of things to add to my list.
This has resulted in an obsession with purchasing notebooks.
I believe that enriching yourself through experiences is a great way to develop yourself, your story & a way to encourage opportunity in your life.

-
For this reason when I was told about Day Zero Project, I knew I wanted in.
Day Zero is an online community for people who love creating lists, setting challenges & making positive changes in their lives.
 -

The people behind Day Zero believe that open lists like bucket lists don't work because the pressures off, but when you add in a time constraint, your focus and determination kick in.
Which I have to say I totally agree with.
I'm not one for rushing but I liked the idea of the 101 in 1001, my reasons for this are threefold.
One I'm 27 so I'll be turning 30 shortly before my list is up, while I'm not freaked about the horizon of 30, I want to make the most of my twenties.
While I'm happy in my life, I want to make some changes to the route I'm wandering down, I feel that this list will ensure I'm sticking to my ambitions.
Last but not least, by spreading the list over a couple of years I can really measure the progress & experience the list has encouraged me to accomplish.

-

Day Zero Project have lots of inspiration for lists, but never one to shy away from a challenge, I'm opting for the 101 in 1001.
101 things is quite a list, so to ensure I utilize the list and time as best I can I'm dividing my list into categories.
Five categories comprising a list of twenty goals (apart from travel which has twenty one, because y'know the heart wants what it wants!)

FINDING THE WORDS

L I T T L E B E A R W O L F

T W E N T Y S I X T E E N

-

-

Aloha, Ahoy

With the breath of Spring riding on the horizon, the night clearly lit under the starry sky, the days are beginning to hum the soft sound of summer & while I await the golden glow of the sunshine, I find myself feeling a hint of wanderlust & in my bones I know something in me is changing.

-

I feel like the older I get, the more I get to understand myself but also the opportunity to create myself. Adventure, exploration & creativity have over time become incredibly important to me & my lifestyle. I figured that the single most important thing to me is to live.
To live & not simply exist.

-

Allowing myself to explore that idea was the first hurdle I'd face. Life moves at a pace these days in corporate & technological terms that I'm not sure mankind will eventually keep up with, we're managing to do the impossible, to take on ideas that fifty years ago were just dreams of mad scientists & film-makers.
With that power comes great responsibility; of course a dark side too.
Acts of terror, war & disaster continue to threaten our communities.
While these massive leaps & acts on mankind's part continue to roll out, as just one person, I find myself asking where my place in the world is, what my purpose is & how I'm going to spend the time that is given to me.

-

So with the rising Spring sun, I find myself pondering my place in it all, wandering through thoughts, dreams & looking for answers to the questions I've not yet formed into sentences.

-

I fight with this constant battle between me & myself. To achieve everything in an instant, to create & manage everything the internet has taught me is possible to make my dreams come true.
Yet at the same time wondering just what exactly the whole damn rush is about, I'm only 27.
You can't rush life, experience or your own journey.
Hell to what everyone else is up to, by all means support, find inspiration & build companionship with those who are important to you.
Understand though that the only person who you can control, the only life you can live, the only story you will write is your own.
When you shine brightly, you light a path for those around you.

-

So I stop for a moment on the mountainside, I face away from the rock face I've been scrambling to climb & I turn around, the vast valley beneath me is shining in hues of gold, pink & purple. The white snow sitting atop the mountains glows as if it's sprinkled with glitter & I realise that not all treasure is silver & gold.
I put down my backpack & close my eyes, to appreciate the moment.
I understand that even if it's just for a moment that everything is ok, my pursuit of life happens at every second of the day & by pressuring myself to reach the summit in a day, I not only set my self up for failure; but I stop myself from admiring the journey, from enjoying the experience & from appreciating the view along the way.

-

I can't tell you your purpose, I can't tell you why mankind exist and to what purpose, that's your own plot waiting to be written & devised. I can only explain that while I might not have all the answers, nor even the questions, I understand that everyday I wake, is precious time that I can use to unite my passions, to write my story, to learn, to explore.
Everyday won't always be a wondrous adventure, but when the foundations are being dug, I can wipe my tired eyes because the seeds I've sown today, will blossom in time.

Because my story has begun. I am on the road.
As the fog clears, I know that adventure, exploration & learning are integral to the development of my story.
I wasn't born to be a certain thing when I grew up
I was born to live
free and wild
untameable
& changeable
to live my life, not to find my place in her, but to create it.

While the rolling hills of England call me home, I place my ear to the ground & listen to understand the direction in which I will go.
As the sun makes her farewell with the day. I will sleep in the knowledge that while I won't always have a compass to guide me, that while my family are divided across the globe, while home feels like more than one place to me, that my passion is my fire & I will do all the things that set my soul alight.
I will truly live.

-

While there are many mountains to climb, I have the rest of my life to do so.
Life is a constant balancing act, you must continue to find that balance for it's ever changing just as we are as people.
What's important to me now, is different from ten years ago, as I imagine it will be ten years from now.

So dear heart, try to not worry about having all the answers, of having the plot written, of understanding all the parts. In time these things will come together.
Focus on what you can do today, what can you begin, communicate & initiate that inspires & sets your soul alight?

-

To be or not to be is truly the question Shakespeare.
But deciding to be, is only to open the door, the real adventure lies once you step outside.
