Aloha, Ahoy
On Friday evening in a little studio based on a peninsula of the south coast, three bands turned up to play an intimate set to promoters, radio, bloggers and local music lovers.
Gosport is a really small town, made up mostly of houses, schools, little convenience shops & a small high street to cover the necessities. It sits on a peninsula just west of Portsmouth and has scenic views across the harbour to Old Portsmouth, to Southsea and from the two beaches on the west side of town across to the Isle Of Wight.
Gosport is home to several naval bases and a lot of young families, the council provide certain arts events throughout the year, but generally the town suffers a little artistically with events, due to it's proximity to the thriving arts communities of Portsmouth & Southampton.
While there is certainly a presence from Gosport and a number of the bands play across the water, Gosport's own scene has dwindled slightly.

This does not mean there is a lack of artistic creatives within the town though, one such studio plays home to a good number of them.
As well as a number of artists, event organizers and people bringing creativity to the town.

The guys at Bad Bear Studio, not only created the studio as a relaxed, friendly, good value, welcoming place to rehearse for local bands, but they are also working musicians themselves in Destroy The Fleet.
They promote 'Mash Up' nights in Gosport (their most recent night with Blackfoot Circle was a complete sell out event) and their guitarist Dan Williams just happens to be the greatest artist I've ever met.

Probably one of the most artsy couples I've come to know, his wife Ceri is a brilliant tattoo artist too and I really recommend checking out their work, it's fab. If you find yourself in Gosport support local art and check out this talented bunch!

Bad Bear Studio was the setting for the Secret Sessions gig, with Destroy The Fleet, Kamikaze Test Pilots and Southsea's coolest new band - Bimbo.

If you get the chance to check out the tunes from Destroy The Fleet, make sure you do, these guys are awesome. They'll be playing more shows this year and you'll be able to check them out but you can check them out at Wickham Festival too! Contact the band if you'd like to see them play.

Kamikaze Test Pilots are Reading's most rocking band to emerge in recent times and their journey is looking to be an exciting one. The boys tunes have been loved by BBC Introducing, they've been played on the radio in California and across 158 countries worldwide.
With gigs and festival appearances coming up, a new release imminent and plans for adventures next spring this is certainly one band that you should be keeping an eye on.

Bimbo, oh boys what can I say. Leanna told me about this band, she told me they were ones to look out for. I took a listen to the EP and Kiss of Death certainly caught my attention, but the real magic from these boys appears as they come on stage.
Don't ever underestimate the power of two, this is part of the magic, part of their charm.
Two young lads enter the stage and you can feel an uncertainty about what will follow.
The noise emanating from the stage sounds as though it shouldn't be coming from just two people.
These lads have only just begun their music adventure but they are most definitely ones to check out in 2016.
The same weekend as playing secret sessions, the boys then supported The Underground Pilots at The Edge of the Wedge.
They've got plenty more awesome shows to share with you.
