BIMBO are a two-piece band storming their way into the south-coast music scene. Their bluesy, doom rock infused music certainly will captivate you; it isn’t crazy to admit this band are going to make it far.
A couple of nights ago I went and met the guys, we went to a bar and had a bit of a chat about their band (in-between me being bewildered as they compared beers and us probably having far too much of a giggle when I should have been working…oops!)
Here's how the chat imbetween comparing beers went...
The first thing I asked BIMBO was the most obvious question…
WHY DID YOU NAME YOUR BAND THAT?
WHY DID YOU NAME YOUR BAND THAT?
We didn’t have a name and we had a gig coming up, we wanted a punchy one-worder which wasn’t too serious, because we’re not too serious.
We searched up old terms for a laugh, that’s where we found BIMBO. To be honest every band name sucks but it builds with the personality the music brings to it – like Foo Fighters – “what does that even mean?!”
'I'm a bit of a bimbo, we both are' - Rob
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER?
Well, we used to be in a four-piece but found it wasn’t our thing…we wanted to create something expressive that we enjoy.
We didn’t do our first gig until September last year but before that we were dithering around for about a year making songs and figuring out how to work as a two piece. It took a lot more energy.
An idea can bounce around in your head, we tried different things we liked, but, doom rock felt the most comfortable and really fits Rob’s voice.
BUT YOU’RE QUITE BLUSEY TOO?!
ROB: Some of our favourites are bluesy! BB King, Eric Clapton…my Dad was in a blues band so that influenced me really...
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR BIMBO?
AMRIT: I think it’s important not to look to far into the future, I don’t want us to get ahead of ourselves. We just want to gig loads, continue doing what we’re doing and playing some cool venues. We haven’t been a two piece for too long and to be honest we couldn’t believe the reception we got in the first few weeks, it was incredible!

Rob went from backing vox to being a front man so had to build the confidence up and get some stage presence.
WHY DOOM ROCK?
An idea can bounce around in your head, we tried different things we liked, but, doom rock felt the most comfortable and really fits Rob’s voice.
'I saw the singer of Drenge fall over in a dress, what was going on? I don't know but it was good. It's something we would do. - Rob

ROB: Some of our favourites are bluesy! BB King, Eric Clapton…my Dad was in a blues band so that influenced me really...
AMRIT: The blues keeps us grounded, some of my favourite influences are blues too – little Richard, Richard Purdy and Jack White to name a few. The blues is melodic and emotional and our music is about connecting to people on a level people can relate to.
When you go back to the bands you like the elements start from the blues, it’s embedded in you.Classic blues and contemporary psych rock keep those elements, to be honest blues can be found in anything.

I think people expect us to be like The Black Keys but I don’t think we are, our riffs are based around blues scales and drum grooves, but that doesn’t make us the same.

We’ve just recorded an EP called, Kiss of Death and hopefully we can have another EP or single recorded by the beginning of 2017!
Check out & follow the band...
