While many of you are preparing for festive season (which by the way is very confusing, it's only October!) we're sticking with the forthcoming celebration of Samhain. 

The days are getting shorter, the nights longer, the leaves are turning from green to beautiful shades of red, orange and gold. As the weather cools & tribe LBW are supping pumpkin spiced latte's (except me, who will continue to drink tea), we'll be sharing awesome gigs & music to keep you warm all through the winter that those North of the wall warned us was coming.

This summer there was a rich swell of music that surfed in on the tides of the emerging music ocean, those bands, artists and tunes will continue to be harboured on the blog throughout fall; joined also by those great tunes released by the bands of yesteryear, who are uniting with the music scene once more, throughout the long cold of winter (Korn we're looking at you, Corey you're next).

At tribe LBW while we love the winter weather, the snow, the winter ocean, long nights of stargazing under the moon; but at heart, we are creatures of the sun.

Those long warm summer nights, the blue ocean beckoning us toward her, the sound of songs being played out across the hills, countryside and beaches.

January may seem a little cold for festival season to get started, but with 12 stages to keep you warm the guys behind Pilot Promotions figured Icebreaker Festival was the perfect post festive season festival to get your year off to a rocking start.

What better way to keep warm & prepare for summer season then with a whole day of awesome live music?

The festival of metal, of riffs and of all that rocks. We absolutely would not miss this festival. Last year everyone seemed to give the guys a lot of negativity, which we at tribe LBW feel was a little unwarranted. Yeah okay there were loads of the old bands but there was plenty of new blood too.

Besides it was an honour to see the likes of Sabbath, & Maiden.

-

But something tells us this year team DL are stepping up their game and there'll be one hell of an influx of new blood as well as the biggest names in music...

(Our money's on Metallica to headline! Corey if you work real hard on getting a new record out maybe we'll even get our favourite nine!)

Here at Tribe LBW, there was one thing I wanted to do when I started my blog, it was to combine my love of nature, primarily the ocean with my love of music, primarily rock. A grassroots festival that definitely holds it's own unique character in the festival scene.

A weekend of surfing and music, is there anything sweeter in life?

This year we got to see the likes of Nahko & Medicine For The People perform and I'm telling you now when you take that healing medicine music and you factor in the surf, there's pretty much no better way to spend a weekend.

Fantastic formulas of magic that create a tantalising sound that will capture you in it's spell.

A band that are truly proving they're a force to be reckoned with and the band you need to watch in 2017.

The true kings of the North, Eat Defeat are pretty much like one of those candies that once you've tasted one, it's not enough. You will forever crave the sweet sound of ED punk-rock tunes.

A LITTLE KINDNESS

Aloha - Ahoy

I wanted to write something this morning, a little something about kindness. Fear not, it very much relates to music and specifically, LBW.



I worked in the corporate world for several global organizations in multi-billion dollar industries.

The more I got closer to the core, the more I realised that the people at the top were no different to you or I, there was just a lack of kindness, it was like the scent of money, power and success were purer there.

It was every man for himself.

I knew I had entered a place in which I didn't belong.



I found a band of friends who roamed the world, nomads writing music and creating art and spending time with them helped me understand so much about myself.

There was the corporate machine world, feeding on money, success & power.

There was the natural world, a place of beauty, of freedom, of wonder.

 Nature, the planet, the universe are the powerful forces; we merely reside in a corner of her space.

You only have to spend a little time in nature to become very humbled by that realization; In the ocean as you face the oncoming waves, as you climb the mountain rocks, as you wander through valleys of trees and hills.

I find myself in nature, to escape, to recharge, to reconnect with the world.

 Perhaps one day I'll live in the forest, near to the ocean living off forest fruits and existing only in nature.

For now I exist in both. Which meant finding a way to exist in both worlds.

If I was going to make money to live, I was going to do something that made a difference to people, something I was passionate about.

Balancing a passion of music and travel, of seeking knowledge and living for adventures.

Whenever I'm not in the music world, I'll be found out on the dirt tracks of the world, adventuring.

 I get to do great work, spending time with wonderful musicians and meet lots of inspiring people.

Rather than having a career, I tuned into my passions and created a way to exist in the world while dancing to the beat of my own drum.

That band of people by the way, signed to a huge label and never sold out their medicine. They still play spreading their message, helping communities and ensuring they leave the world in a better state than they found it.

I realised that the machine is run by people, you can be at the top and make one hell of a difference to the world, if you value kindness.

If you're the kind of person who will use your power for good.

I will never take the opportunities and adventures I have for granted, I work hard for it, to maintain it.

I didn't and don't want to enjoy it alone, the passion behind writing about music, was to share it with the world.

To create a community space for people to share in their passion of music, to connect music with the world.



 I realised within myself that the reason I always felt as though I was stumbling to keep up with my generation, with achieving the things we were told to acheive, was actually not in my nature, I didn't crave or strive for those things.

These days, I just try to do good and help others where possible as much as I can.

I definitely think karma exists in the world.

That light you create for others often lights your own path too. It should inspire you to be more kind. Imagine how light the world would be if we were kind to every person we interacted with.

What always surprises me, is how taken back people are by kindness. Is humankind in such a state that an act of kindness is rare and something to behold?

Something that surprises us so much?

I'm not here to tell you how to be kind, just simply to say kindness is incredibly important in the world.

Let's be that change we all talk of.

I did promise you this related to music, which probably hasn't been that clear, this space is to share emerging music with people around the world. I hope you all feel welcome to come to revel in great tunes, to connect over the music you love and that you'll pop back and continue to support emerging live music.

Here are three bands that you absolutely have to check out. These are the bands that you will want to keep both eyes on because not only have they found the formula of the magics, they're able to capture it in song form and when they play live, they emit these incredible vibes from the stage.

It's been such a beautiful weekend and a beautiful day that it's hard not to feel all the vibes of festival season. If you've never heard of Boardmasters in Cornwall, you definitely need to check it out for 2017. This festival has become the meeting place for people who love the ocean, surfing and music, a grassroots festival for sure and one that stole this free spirit's heart.

Festival season isn't quite over yet but there's plenty of gigs to keep us warm all through fall and well into winter. Look out for Tuesday Tunes tomorrow morning which has information on all the gigs you need to be at in the next two weeks.

It's Monday and that means it's Music Monday, a round-up of the best in new music from across the UK and you can catch these bands harbored at LBW over the coming weeks, so keep a weather eye on that horizon.

This band are so new and shiny but that doesn't stop them from being the most awesome duo you will set eyes upon this year. Their tunes bring the rock; the gritty kind that you can really gnaw on.

This duo are a must see live to truly feed on that energy emanating from the two guys on stage. I've never been so mesmerised and surprised by a band in my life.

A friend played me ACP and I was instantly interested, this band know how to rock. It would appear that Reading is a good breeding ground for wicked bands. This totally underrated band are becoming a firm favourite of team LBW & we plan to bring you more on this lovely bunch very soon.

This band are like my favourite sweater at this point. You know it's going to be good everytime you put it on. But unlike my favourite sweater, these guys aren't getting threadbare and worn, they're in the midst of bringing you something so flinging-flanging awesome this winter that you won't know what's hit you.

Aloha - Ahoy

It's certainly summer, the days are long, the sky is cloudless, the ocean a constant blue.

This weekend I took a little time out from all the music adventures to spend some time in nature. Balance is important in life, I don't like to take life too seriously but I could feel my energy lacking & figured some time with friends, the ocean & the forest may just be exactly what I needed to refresh my spirit.

There are many incredible bands emerging across the music scenes within the UK and even distant shores currently; those of you who stop by regularly will be familiar with a few names on the list, but we are excited to bring you tunes in the coming days from Bimbo, Alternative Car Park, Witchcharmer, Almeida, Eat Defeat, Cold Summer, The Bittertown Hounds, Captain Trips, Coral Springs, Oxen, Tankus The Henge, Kamikaze Test Pilots, Triple Sundae & many more, so do keep a weather eye on the music horizon.

With the summer drawing to a close on the distant horizon, fall brings a fresh chapter here at LBW too. I'll be back on the road & featuring bands from across the UK as well as Europe and the US too.

Then I'll be spending a little time nearer the capital and a little time in my favourite places in the west, bringing you the best in music and adventures!

It's not just me, Leanna my lovely intern from the south coast is heading out of her current town to a new location where she'll be based bringing you the best in music from across the south's coolest music scenes.

Team LBW are also welcoming our US, European and UK interns this month which we'll shortly be sharing with you as well as our music scene focus features from around the UK & overseas.

Aloha, Ahoy

As many people have asked, here is the reason behind my 'Aloha, Ahoy' welcome to each post.

I lived on the coast when I embarked upon my journey to create LBW, I wanted to incorporate the coast theme into my blog because not only was it the origin of the site, but I love the ocean, I'm obsessed with it's beauty, it's untameable nature, it's magic.

Ahoy is a calling term to hail other ships, to draw attention, which I'd certainly like to achieve when I'm sharing awesome music from across the globe.

Aloha is much more personal, it is of course of Hawaiian origin [along with that recurring ocean theme] it's a friendly, welcoming term. LBW is a community, one space for anyone interested in music to explore and connect with music from around the world.

I have always felt an affinity for the ocean and for nature, as a kid I had this image of Hawaii as this beautiful lush green island, surrounded by an incredible ocean of waves.

Awesome surfing and beautiful sunsets with music in the background. Then I was introduced to Nahko Bear, he was the embodiment of this image.

His music truly spoke to me and he taught me to follow my heart, trust my instincts and fight my fears. His inspiration gave me strength to continue this venture, this journey even when it became incredibly tough.

LBW continues to develop & travel to distant shores. Sometimes I can't believe my life changed so much from one tiny idea 'I think I'll start a blog'.

I could talk all night about the wonderful adventure I've been living but I won't bore you all and this intro is already an essay and I haven't even begun to tell you the reason for the post.

Beautiful music, exciting music, magic music are all terms I've heard people use when they hear something new that they've not heard before. Music is the universal language you don't need to speak to understand. I feel it all around me, it soaks into the atmosphere of the room, I think this is why I enjoy gigs so much. I'm immersed into the energy emanating from the musicians.

For me it's a very spiritual experience, a way to connect, to lose myself, to be captured by the sound and transported elsewhere. 

Music holds emotion, we've all got songs that bring a tear to our eye, that remind us of that awesome time or that sets our heart on fire.

There are brilliant musicians with incredible songs that you need to hear, I promise I will stop rambling on and I will share the most awesome songs from musicians and emerging artists from around the world with you tonight...

I know I usually stick to my passions - Rock, Metal, Punk & Ska but as this is a music community for all the world, I'll be bringing you magic in many different forms, starting with the first ever musician I worked with.

From Los Angeles, California, here is the first artist I featured in 2013, David Geftakys, with his dreamy indie-rock-pop melody 'Games We Play'. If you get the chance to see David, do go see him. His heartfelt tunes are delicate sound that will gracefully capture your attention as you softly drift out of focus becoming lost in the melody.

Sticking with the pacific theme, here's my inspiration, my brother, Nahko Bear & his awesome band Medicine for the People with their wonderful healing magic tune 'Aloha Ke Akua'

UK friends Nahko & MFTP are in London this month, do not miss them appear at Koko London on Wednesday 10th August. The people, the music, the band make any show an incredible spiritual experience, that allow you to transcend from the present and become entirely lost in the music.

The next artists have become a huge influence to me over the past three years, to embrace the things I love, the lifestyle I love, to be at peace with myself. 

The more I listen, the more I come to love their sound. Rising Appalachia are beautiful spirits and there's some really great blues, jazz influences creating a truly unique sound.

Across the Atlantic now, to Sweden for something a little more rocky, something I think you might quite like and do look out for some very exciting features coming up on LBW for this band in the coming weeks. Here are Sweden's freshest export.

I've seen them at festivals, I've seen them at gigs, I've heard their tunes a lot, in a lot of places and I still absolutely love them. This band are absolutely not to be missed. Catch them just about everywhere these days!

From the most popular, to the absolute freshest in south coast music, this duo defy all the rules, they will shock you and you will not be the same after their set.
A real must see live band. More to come with LBW shortly.

B I M B O

From the south coast to inner city Leeds, here are my favourite punk-skate-rockers, do check out their tunes, do support them at a show and do give them all your love. If you loved punk rock as a teen, then this band is going to be one hell of a nostalgia kick for you.
It's almost too good...

I literally found this band tonight, but you definitely need to hear their tunes. I promise this is not the last you will hear of Bear Arms here at LBW.

B E A R // A R M S

Back to the south coast for some heavy doom riffs and progressive stoner rock from the brilliant lads that bring you wicked events from Pilot Promotions, it is of course Portsmouth's favourite's. Rumor has it these boys have been in the studio, more to come!

I am all about that energy, this band most definitely have that. They stole me from the first note and I am helpless to stop myself loving their heavy aggressive anthems.

Last but by no means least, perhaps my favourite band of twenty sixteen, the greatest rock songs I have ever heard. Songwriting skills that could take on the biggest bands and an almost unrivaled energy on stage, this is Reading's (perhaps even the worlds) greatest band (and you heard them here first!)

From BBC Introducing, to California airwaves and back across Europe, you can catch the boys live in Basingstoke at The Sanctuary on 19th August and The Hobbit in Southampton on the 20th August. Then Reading and London too with lots more shows being announced!

Aloha, Ahoy!

I've been booking exciting gigs this week and working with awesome bands, there is many a good song out there on the emerging music circuit at the moment and things have been no less busy here at LBW.

I told you a little while ago that LBW was expanding outside the realms of the south coast and beginning to feature more music from around the world. I've been scouting awesome girls to join the team at LBW and share wonderful music with all of you.

Leanna joined LBW earlier this month to focus on emerging music from across the south coast, from Brighton to Southampton and everywhere imbetween.

I've got two lovely girls interning at LBW from the states who I'll be introducing next month, but tonight I'm really excited to share my newest addition to LBW. Currently based in the UK, this girl's going to be bringing some exciting sounds to LBW from Canada later this year.

So who is this girl? 

I am very much an advocate of adventures and finding friends that you share passions with.

I met this girl exactly that way.

We met at a music festival in the Oxfordshire countryside (I know it was meant to be!) through a band I was working with, while I was supposed to be watching other bands play!

I am super excited to welcome Fiona MacAulay to LBW.

I've rambled quite long enough my little pickles, so here's Fiona's first feature for LBW on a band I'm sure you'll all come to love.

Sunday 26 June 

The world was still reeling in post-Brexit disbelief, even Facebook wasn't a safe haven from political 'willy waving' and I was in the midst of a rather traumatic break-up. 

It felt like only a miracle could lift my mood. 

Que - Stornoway, playing at Magdalen College School as part of the Oxford Festival of Arts.

I don't know how they do it, but whether you're feeling magnificent or melancholic, these boys tick all the boxes. 

The four piece are an alternative indie folk band and actually hail from Oxford itself. Seeing them play in their home town was a true honor. It was clear they were having a great time and the whole vibe was friendly and familiar. It felt more like a house party with all your favorite people, than a gig in a Marquee. 

They smashed out a few old tunes, mixed in plenty of tracks from their newest album 'Bonxie' (a MUST listen), and even threw out a cover of Yazz 'The Only Way Is Up', which the crowd went mad for. 

A personal highlight was their hit 'Josephine' which they preformed in acapella. It was a heart in mouth moment for me... I don't think there was a hair on my body that didn't stand to attention during those few minutes.

...I'll give you a moment to recover from that mental image!!! 

To top it all off there was a bit of audience participation, when we were invited to clap and click our fingers along to "Love Song of the Beta Male"... Apologies to the boys if there was one choice individual who was consistently out of time with the rest - I'd had far too much prosecco.

I cannot stress more how brilliant these guys are. They've been playing as a band for 10 years and I hope they stick around for plenty more. If you haven't seen them or heard of them, make sure you do...and you can thank me later!
